Killer Mike – who is one half of the hip hop group Run the Jewels and a member of the Atlanta hip-hop collective the Dungeon Family – was also honored in March by the state Senate for his involvement in the city’s water infrastructure.Last September, a giant drill designed to build an emergency back-up water supply for the city was named “Driller Mike” in the rapper’s honor.Killer Mike has been outspoken about his desire to improve Atlanta.In March, he told the Senate, “Our children deserve decent housing. Gentrification should not make children poor.”“Our school systems deserve more attention. Our teachers deserve more money,” he said. “Our firemen deserve more money. And our policemen deserve more than new guns. They deserve to have enough cops on the street to be involved in the community.”He echoed those beliefs Monday at City Hall.
